Humpday Tossbacksssssss (RIP Guru)

If you don't know, now you know.

There's always something that takes you down a few levels and makes you pay attention to what's really important (whatever that may be for you).  Tuesdays are my "I hate everything about anything" days.  It's such a silly day, too early in the week to get excited about the weekend but too late in the week to turn back.  We all have them, I don't care how cheerful, positive or God fearing you are, EVERYDAY is not a sunny day.  Settling into my "I hate everything" state yesterday I ran across several tweets mentioning the passing of Guru.  Just like that, everything went back into perspective.  Life is too short to sweat the small stuff.

I can't claim to be a huge Guru/Gang Starr fan but I respect what he brought to hip hop.  During a time in music when everyone wanted to prove how "hardcore" they were he went left and proved that you can rap AND be an intellectual.  Sure Krs-1 and many others have done this as well but Guru had a way of bridging gaps and taking music to the next level with such grace and finesse that you didn't even realize you were being introduced to something new.  He fused hip hop with jazz effectively and impressively.  The 1st time I heard "Jazz Thing" I felt like I'd gotten an entire history on jazz in about 4 and a half minutes.

What's really sad about this is the fact that there are so many unanswered questions and rumors floating around about Guru's final months, his business and personal relationship with partner Solar and the truth about him and DJ Premiere.  Oh, and that bogus "deathbed" letter supposedly written by Guru didn't help any (we don't believe you, you need more people).

Yes we lost another great one, but his music will forever and always live on inspiring and carrying on the message of "knowledge, wisdom and understanding" .  RIP.
