Music Monday: Raekwon x Wynton Marsalis "You Don't Know What Love Is, Lizz" mixed by Shay

RAEKWON X WYNTON MARSALIS "YOU DON'T NOW WHAT LOVE IS, LIZZ"
See what had happened was...
I was listening to some jazz while editing at work. I do this often, it adds a little excitement to the mostly boring edits that keep me chained to my desk for hours at a time. While waiting for my project to save I stumbled upon this new Raekwon track called "Lizz". I hit play forgetting that I was still listening to my jazz station. The song playing was "You Don't Know What Love Is" by Wynton Marsalis. I let them both rock out together and to my surprise they sounded really good. Too good. For a second I thought the horns were apart of the Raekwon song lol. So what did I do? I opened another session in Adobe Audition, slapped the 2 tracks together (I started the Rae song from the beginning, the WM song is a live version that's about 12 mins long so I tried to go to the part of the song that I had originally heard) mixed them down and titled it "You Don't Know What Love Is, Lizz". So simple a cave man can do it...
BUT the hole gets deeper...
Here's how I see it. My version of the 2 songs combined is a conversation about love between Raekwon, Wynton and homegirl singing the hook (let's call her, oh I don't know, Lizz). Rae is talking about love from his point of view. The raw, fast paced, young, passionate love in a way that a lot of the new generation can understand. Wynton never speaks but uses his horn to explain the way love should be. Slow, easy, soothing but still very passionate. They are both fighting for the attention of the chick singing the hook (Lizz)...well sort of. Rae is a young dude (in the story) and just wants to fuck Lizz. Like many guys he'll say anything to get what he wants while Wynton is a bit older and is trying to warn her about Rae and guys like him. Wynton's "words" are always trailing behind her, almost pleading with her to listen but in the end she chooses to take on the challenge that is Raekwon..."Rae Rae, you got me...". They ride off into the sunset leaving Wynton to tell the world their story through his music.
Yuuuuuuup.
It's crazy how well these two random songs can mesh so well together in more ways than one : ) Now THAT'S a "Music Monday" fo yo ass!
Carry on.
