Janelle Monae "Cold War" Tour
Janelle Monae (or whoever handles her account) announced via twitter that she will be on an upcoming tour this year. I saw this little lady perform at Summer Stage a couple of years ago and was stunned. She's an amazing talent but unfortunately she's flying under the wing of P. Diddy. I say unfortunately because I don't think Diddy fully realizes her potential as an artist or is willing to market her properly for exposure. We've all seen what can happen to the career of a Bad Boy or Bad Girl (see Cassie, B5, Boyz N Da Hood, Cherri Dennis, G. Dep, Donnie Klang...) especially when your boss is your biggest competition. Do remember Diddy is riding that "Last Train to Paris" so I highly doubt he's paying close attention to her needs as an artist. Then again that could work in her favor. "When the cat's away, the mice play" sort of thing. If she was left alone and allowed the freedom to create her music HER way without the influence (or guest appearances) of Puff and his henchmen she could potentially do some serious damage to the industry and the charts. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
If she does come to your town I suggest you check her out. People tend to judge EVERYTHING on looks first, especially musicians. Broads like Nicki Minaj will get played all day on the radio while music by people like Janelle Monae will sit on some program director's desk for months because no one can grasp her style (I happen to love it). Now that I think about it, maybe her having that Bad Boy stamp on her cds will be the confirmation that program directors and the general public need to give her a chance. Whatever the case may be, get fucking familiar with Janelle Monae...oh yeah "take that, take that, take that".
