Music Monday: "I Miss You"

Before the recent passing of Teddy Pendergrass this song always struck a cord with me.  I remember hearing it for the first time as a teenager and almost breaking down into tears (you know how moody teens can be).  THIS is what's missing in today's r&b, those gut wrenching lyrics that span generations, that high note that seems to ease every pain in your soul, that emotional connection; the feeling that this one song couldn't have been made with anyone else in mind but YOU.  That's what 60's and 70's music represent to me; soul, passion and simplicity.

I miss music.  I KNOW, there are hundreds of talented artists bursting onto the scene every minute of everyday, I know a few and have interviewed  many but I think that's the problem.  There are SO MANY of the "next best thing" that the music scene has been saturated with "fluff".  I hate fluff. The thing I hate most about fluff is that it's sticky and unfortunately the musical fluff that has generated with the end of a greater musical era (early 90's to mid 00's) tends to be...sticking around.

What can you do?  I guess that's the beauty of vinyl, cassette tapes, cd's and mp3's.  Each one holds a bit of musical history, whether good or bad. They all represent a point in time when the artist decided to open up and let the world into their world.  (Sometimes, I just wish some of them would keep their worlds to themselves).  Haha.

By the way, I really miss you...
