DIRTY One Word Can Change The World: The Official ODB Biography
Russell Tyrone Jones, ODB, Osirius, Ason Unique, Big Baby Jesus. No matter what you called him, you knew who he was. He made sure of it. Ol' Dirty Bastard passed away 5 years ago on this day (November 13).
This week I had the opportunity to attend the New York premiere of "DIRTY" One Word Can Change The World" The Official ODB Biography at the National Black Theater in Harlem. Directed by ODB's cousin Raison Allah and featuring commentary from members of the Wu Tang Clan, his family and close friends the biography shows the "dirtiest" member of the Wu in a different light. It portrayed a talented musician, loving son, respected brother, devoted father and friend who was often outspoken and misunderstood.

I have to admit after seeing the biography I have a new level of respect for the man that was ODB. The film (the director's first) was very well put together. It exposed the myths of ODB's upbringing, rumors of him neglecting his children, the significance of his various name changes and even shed on his living conditions while in jail as well as the unfortunate effects of the mandated medication he was on after his release. What made the film uniquely special was hearing about ODB from his closest family members including his parents, siblings, children and members of the Wu Tang Clan. It was almost as if their stories brought him back to life, even if only for the duration of the film. It is definely worth checking out and can be purchased on DVD.

RIP ODB
