CMJ Global Hip Hop Throwdown (pics)
When I say global I mean GLOBAL.
During the CMJ madness of last week I checked out Nomadic Wax/The Bloom Effect's 4th annual CMJ Global Hip Hop Throwdown @ 92Y Tribeca and it was such a breath of fresh air seeing how hip hop is represented across the globe. All pics taken by me btw.
At Versaris (Catalonia, Spain)

This was their first time in the US and their first US performance. Although I couldn't understand a word of what they were saying (their music is in Catalan, a latin-rooted language spoken in the Eastern part of Spain) their passion and energy erased any awkwardness between them and the crowd. They did a hell of a job!

DOPE shirt.

La Melodia (Amsterdamn) The femcee + dj duo from Amsterdamn took the stage next. It's always a pleasure to see a female rock the mic but watching one from another country was classic.

MC Melodee

DJ I.N.T.

and another dope shirt.

Coolooloosh (Israel) I'd already had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful group from Israel but I'd never seen them perform live. One word, SPECTACULAR! I love seeing live bands and watching these guys reminded me of watching The Roots in concert, you can't help but marvel at how amazing they sound live.

The group consists of 5 members (L-R Rebel Star, Yogev, Ori, Yuval and Arik below)

What do you know, another dope shirt.

Since a chick has a regular 9-5 I had to miss one of the groups I was really looking forward to seeing, Nomadic Massive (Canada). A 9 piece group combining live instruments, hip hop, singing and everything in between for your listening pleasure. Check out some footage of their performance that evening:
