Black 70's Movies Month: Week 3

This just might be my favorite movie out of the bunch:

SPARKLE!!!!!

Starring Irene Cara, Lonette McKee, Mary Alice, Phillip Michael Thomas and Dawn Smith.  This movie is great.  It tells the story of a group of sisters growing up in 1950's Harlem, their rise to musical fame and the trials and tribulations that they experience along the way.

3 reason the check it out:
1.  Great acting done by the cast.  Unlike other movies of it's kind that came out around this time, the acting is neither cheesy nor horribly bad.  Each character is pretty well developed and brought to life by it's actor.
2.  Good plot.  If you've never seen the movie (and have never read the back of the VHS version) you will be pleasantly surprised at how authentic the tale is.
3.  The soundtrack and musical performances!  This is always a plus.  Soundtracks add so much feeling to movies and many of the movies from the 70's were fueled on that alone.  Curtis Mayfield + Aretha Franklin = The Sparkle Sdtrk.  Need I say more.
8 pieces of music gold on one of the best soundtracks ever.  Yeah I said it.

Check out  a clip of "Sista & The Sisters" performing one of my favorite songs "Giving Him Something He Can Feel"
