The Grammy Family
Lil Wayne getting 8 nominations is all fine and dandy but they could have thrown a couple more to my girl AK-47. Best R&B album??? COME ON! How about Best Album PERIOD? What about Best Song/Record: Like You'll Never See Me Again, I think so.... Then again she has gotten more grammy's in her short career than certain artists will get in a lifetime, the album is multiple platinum, and Grammy Awards don't pay the bills so WHATEVER! lmao...
Lil Wayne comes up big with eight Grammy nominations
He once dubbed himself the "best rapper alive."
Now, Lil Wayne stands a chance of becoming the most Grammy-awarded rapper alive.
The randy New Orleans star nabbed eight nominations this year, more than any other artist.
His tally nudged him ahead of Coldplay, which claimed seven nods, while Jay-Z, Kanye West and teen R&B star Ne-Yo each garnered six.
Only Coldplay has a shot at sweeping all top three categories - Album, Song and Record of the Year. Among that top troika, Wayne's work appears only in the Album slot.
The other contenders for top Album include the odd-couple collaboration between Led Zeppelin yowler Robert Plant and bluegrass chanteuse Alison Krauss ("Raising Sand"), and Radiohead's controversial "In Rainbows."
The latter turned the Internet into a virtual tip jar by allowing fans to download the disk for whatever price they deemed fit, including nothing.
The hotly contended Best New Artist category shows the breadth of this year's nominations, with positions reserved for R&B newcomer Jazmine Sullivan, country trio Lady Antebellum, scream-pop stars the Jonas Brothers, and two neo-soul, one-named Brits, Duffy and Adele.
Adele already seems to be the voters' early favorite: She also earned nods in the Record and Song of the Year slots for her number "Chasing Pavements."
The Plant-Krauss pairing also got a boost by slipping their number "Please Read the Letter" into the Record of the Year bin.
Also mentioned in the top Record category was art-pop star M.I.A. (with "Paper Planes") and big-voiced British singer Leona Lewis (with "Bleeding Love").
Estelle, Jason Mraz and Sara Bareilles rounded out the stars vying for Song of the Year.
The most surprising snub on this year's list was usual Grammy pet Alicia Keys.
We'll find out who wins this year's awards Feb. 8, when they're handed out at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
