I saw Janelle Monae @ the Central Park summer stage concert series over the weekend and she was fabulous!!! Really an amazing artist. (Say it with me 3x, Diddy don't mess this up, Diddy don't mess this up, Diddy don't mess this up)  Simply astonishing.  I'd never seen her perform before so I was shocked at her level of energy and passion for her music.  Her music btw is out of this world, literally.  This chick is not from our time nor place and that's the best thing about her.  Think 1984 Prince, that scene in Purple Rain "Nobody digs your music but yourself" lol.  That same confidence that Prince had and still has is what I see in her. 

She performed "Many Moons", "Smile" (whhaaat!! I love this song) and that song really showed her vocal skills.  I was under the impression that she had one of those rock, edgy I'm going to scream instead of sing kind of voices but oh no, this chick can saaaannnnnggggg, "Sincerely Jane" and my new anthem "Letting Go".

I also saw this cat from Brooklyn, a jazz singer named Jose James who was alright  AND Gilles Peterson who I am a new fan of.  Anybody who plays "Reasons" by Minnie Riperton in their set is all right with me lol, but Janelle Monae was truly the show stopper.  Her album drops AUGUST 12TH!!!!
