My Erykah Badu/The Roots experience
I've never seen The Roots nor E. Badu live so needless to say I was HYPED lol.
The concert was at Radio City Music Hall in NYC last Friday and it was a sold out crowd which is good to see that people are supporting good music.

First off The Roots were amazing! I will see them anytime live, they are frickin incredible. I have to admit I'm some what of a newbie to the Legendary Roots Crew. I've only been rocking with them for the past couple of years but I have def been converted to a lifetime fan. What other group encompasses a live band complete with a drummer, guitarists, percussion, electronic keyboard, tuba player(who the fuck plays the tuba
and an MC and make it look cool? Black Thought did his thing on the mic, ?uestlove's afro was in full effect on the drums & I have to say their guitar player Captain Kirt is a beast on the guitar. I felt like I was watching a reincarnated Jimi Hendrix.
I guess hardbody Roots fans would have been slightly disappointed, they only did about a 35 min set, they did "You Got Me" minus E. Badu, "Rising up" minus C. Michelle & Wale, and a few other's that I can't think of since I wasn't down from jump. But overall their performance was great.
I promise you I wasn't that far but since my camera is great for taking pics up close but sucks ass when they are at distance they all came out sucky (couldn't sneak the Canon Rebel in lol)

"Welcome to The Vortex" aka Erykah Badu's world where everything in it makes sense...to her lol. I have to say die hard fans were in the house, singing along to every song including "My People", "On and On", "Times A Wastin"-I almost lost it that's my song, the most creative performance of "Green Eyes" I'll prob ever see complete with Erykah doing ballet with 2 huge rubber balls symbolizing 2 lovers in the song (Green Eyes is a 10 min song on the Mama's Gun album talking about the ups downs and everything in btw of love from beginning to end, very smooth & I have to say I have a new respect for the creativity of that song after she performed it) "The Healer" (this 1 is for Dilla...), "Me", "Master Teacher", "Solider"(check the vid below for a clip of it), "Bag Lady" (in which she got in the crowd and had random ppl sing the chorus, grown men were screaming the lyrics lol), "Other Side of the Game" and she ended with "Tyrone" and a melody. I'm missing a few but she was on stage for a good 2 hours with only 1 brief 10 min break. Her band is great her & background singers (including her younger sister and Millie Jackson's daughter...WHAT!) were on point.
Overall She is an amazing performer, she sounds GREAT live, very creative and witty. She joked about ppl being disappointed that she wasn't wearing her "crotchless tights" (the chic ifo me said she was photoed with some crazy outfit and "crotchless tights" I've never seen it), when she jumped in the crowd she joked about ppl's ability or lack there of to sing, the mic stand almost fell while she was doing a routine but she played it off like it was a Jackson 5 move, and she looked cool. All black short dress...thing and a wig to start but by the end of the night the wig had come off (on purpose), and she had on tight black pants and a black shirt.
The show all together was amazing and def worth the money. She didn't perform any songs with The Roots (which would have had a lot of ppl scratching their heads, but it made perfect sense to me), nor did she do the lead single off her new album "Honey" (which did have me scratching my head) but like I said before it's Erykah's world and in her world, to do a song that everyone expects you to do, that just wouldn't make any sense.
E. Badu "Solider"
I gave up with the pics and recorded a bit of her performance of 1 of my fav songs and possibly her next single.
Next stop Kanye's Glow in the dark tour on Tuesday!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I finally got my ticket...CAN'T TELL ME NOTHING!!!!!!!!
