40TH ANNIVERSARY OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. ASSASSINATION

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King.  He paved the way for the civil rights movement allowing people like myself to do the things I do today.  Instead of posting the obligatory youtube clip of his "I Have A Dream" speech I'll post a question, what would Dr. King say if he were still alive today?  Would he be proud of our people and the achievements we've made or ashamed and disgraced at how far backwards we sometimes seem to be going?  I think he would have mixed feelings, I'm not saying that we haven't come far, but sometimes I feel that we still have so far to go.  Racism is still alive, it's not as blatant as it once was but it's def alive.  Minorities are still being treated un-justly, being unfairly persecuted, poorly educated & living in poverty but are supposed to believe our nations leaders when we are told "we're all equal".  I'm sorry but that bullshit about "One nation under God with liberty and justice for all" does not apply to me, not when I still get followed in department stores by security guards, not when I get the side eye from suit and tie executives when I get in the elevator with them at work, not when ppl like Assata Shakur have a 1 million dollar bounty for a crime she was wrongly accused of, DON'T GET ME STARTED!!
All in all, yes we have come far, but not far enough.  Black ppl take the time to reflect today.  Reflect on how far we've come and how far we have to go.  Start with the little things like yourself.  How far have you come from 10 years ago? 5 years or even last year?  What positive changes can you or have you made in your life?  How will those changes effect others?  But most of all be thankful & smile, we could still be at the back of that bus.

The ppl over at The Boondocks seem to have a answer for what Dr. King would say if he were alive today lmao.

There is also a documentary coming on VH1/VH1 SOUL this weekend called "The Night James Brown Saved Boston" about the legendary concert James Brown had in Boston the night after Dr. King was assassinated, looks very interesting so check it!

(Just a side note as to why I would post a mug shot pic of him, it's because of what it represents to me.  He was arrested yes but not for the stupid shit ppl get arrested for today like drunk driving, selling drugs, sexual assaults etc, he was arrested for his beliefs and for trying to establish basic human rights for his people.  AND although he did it in a non violent way & was still thrown in cuffs, he continued on, his spirit was never broken & I respect that.)
