Music is my life.
Seriously. I've just recently realized how much of a huge part music plays in my everyday life. I wake up to Jay Z's "Early This Morning" freestyle daily. I walk the streets with Nas in a "NY State of Mind" (pt.2 with the ice cream truck loop OMG!) while small groups of school children march to dilapidated schools to the sound of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall". I hum the words from the song in the movie "The Color Purple" every time my damn train is delayed "due to a red signal" (Maybe God's tryna tell you something...He must not want me to get where I think I need to be just yet). I used to get to work & hear Kanye's "Spaceship" at my old jobs that I hated (Man, man, man, if my manager insults me again, I will be assaulting him), but now I'm walking into everything from Nirvana (Where Did You Sleep Last Night, the live version ooooyea) to Chuck Berry to Elvis ("was a hero to most but he never meant shit to me...") to the Beatles to whomever, wherever, whatever (note to self get Maxwell "This Woman's Work" asap...see what I mean this shit never stops lol). Yes I still sing that Johnny Kemp song to myself EVERY Friday (whether it's a pay day or not. I can't leave the house without 1 of my ipods so whether I'm going to the store or to the city you can catch my head nodding to anything from Sade to Duo Live to Nina Simone to Evanescence to Biggie to Irene Cara (yes, Fame is my shit!). When I look that special someone in the eyes I think "I'm Ready for Love" like India Aire & when my heart gets trampled on I scream "I'M NOT GONNA CRY" because Mary's done enough crying for all of us. The 1st word out of my mouth when I touched down in Aruba a few years ago was "Kokomo" (Beach Boys). Whenever I think of my father a random Stevie Wonder song goes off (but "They Won't Go When I Go" is 1 of my fav b side tracks), when I think of mom I picture her singing Cheryl Lynn's "Got to Be Real" to herself in the mirror
I still go hard to old random ass tracks like Camp Lo's "Luchini" (this is it what!!!), Naughty by Nature's "Dirt All By My Lonely", Big Pun's "Caribbean Connection" w/ Wyclef, Mint Condition's "What Kind of Man Would I Be", Janet's "Rhythm Nation" & "If" (I'm a huge fan of the 90's Janet, not so much the 2000 Janet). One of the very few albums I can listen to from start to finish: Marvin Gaye "What's Going On", I miss Lauryn horribly, J Dilla's wordless language amazes me, I still say a party's not a party until MJ's "Wanna Be Starting Something" comes on, every now and then I ask myself "what would you do if your son was at home, crying all alone on the bedroom floor cause he's hungry & the only way to feed him is to sleep w/a man for a little bit of money?" and Is "It Insane" by Alicia Keys is my all time fav of hers (go ahead & google it but you prob wont find it unless you listened to my show a few months ago
Yeah I'm one of those ppl that screams "that's my song" for every song (not really). You may think I'm joking (or a bit touched lol) but I literally have a 24 hour radio station going on in my head and it's great. So when you see me nodding with no earphones on...don't be alarmed I'm just jamming to my own beat.

"J Dilla's wordless language amazes me" It still amazes me. Especially when I discover a song I been listening to for years was produce by him. Nice...
